If you’re looking for an alternative to waxworms, Butterworms may be the perfect choice!

  • Nutrient rich treat
  • Tempting to even the pickiest feeders
  • Great for a range of reptiles and amphibians
  • Easy to keep

Butterworms are a nutrient-rich delight for your pets. The larval stage of the Chilean Moth (Chilecomadia Moorei), these are a plump, soft bodied insect with a unique sweet citrus scent and larger size (between approximately 0.5 to 1.5 inches) that can help tempt even the pickiest eaters. With a balanced nutrient profile, Butterworms are a great addition to your pets diet and can help promote healthy growth and vibrant colours.

What Can Eat Butterworms?

These treats can be fed to a variety of insectivorous animals including reptiles such as bearded dragons, geckos, and turtles, and larger amphibians like white’s tree frogs, horned frogs and cane toads.

Butterworm Care

Looking after Butterworms is very simple. They do best when kept in a cool, dark place - your fridge is great as this puts the worms into a semi-hibernation-like state and prevent them pupating. Once you are ready to feed them to your pet, simply remove the ones you need, pop them in a suitable dish to warm back to room temperature so they are active. Butterworms shouldn’t be exposed to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures and must be kept dry.

How Long Will Butterworms Last?

If kept in suitable conditions, Butterworms can last over 2 months in their semi-hibernation state.
