Why UVB Light Is So Important
UVB lighting has been used by reptile keepers for many years and now is recognised as being helpful for snakes, amphibians and even inverts as well as the more traditional lizards. As well as providing heat to support ativity levels in your pet, the UVB light assists the reptile in manufacturing vitamin D3 within their body, an element that is essential for absoring calcium from their food to keep their bones strong and healthy.
How To Use This Light
This UVB bulb should be fitted either inside the enclosure or over the top of a mesh lid to provide a suitable distance between the lamp and the basking area. The screw fitting is compatible with a variety of lamp holders. If fitted inside the enclousre a cage guard should be used to protect your pet from accidental burns. Using a thermostat will help extend the life of the bulb as well as preventing overheating in your enclosure. A lamp dome reflector can also be used to ensure maximum benefit by directing the light towards the basking area and preventing light spill into surrounding areas. Bulbs should be changed regularly, even if still lit, as their UVB producing ability will dimish. This bulb should be changed at least every 12 months, more often if the bulb is in use for long periods of the day.
